Tech Data is adding a new dimension to the opportunity around security, helping resellers to weave the Cisco and IBM integrated fabrics together to address the digital and data security challenges facing modern enterprises.
Integration between Cisco’s Firepower firewall and the IBM QRadar security information and event management (SIEM) solution is now available, and with expertise in both vendors, Tech Data Advanced Solutions can support partners in taking the combined solution to enterprise customers.
IBM QRadar customers can now use an app (available on the IBM App Exchange) to view information provided by Cisco’s Firepower next-generation firewalls. This puts up a separate dashboard within QRadar, showing metrics and threat information detected by Firepower.
Alison Nixon, Business Unit Director - Security at Tech Data Advanced Solutions said, “in the new digital age, data security is paramount. Enterprises must do everything they can to protect themselves from a multiplicity of new and ever-mutating threats. The integration between the Firepower next-gen firewalls and QRadar is a first and vitally important step towards achieving the nirvana of a totally-interconnected security fabric.
“It is also a big opportunity for VARs to go into customers and present a solution that adds a new dimension to security – backed by the expertise of the Tech Data Advanced Solutions security team. We are the only distributor able to support the complete proposition, and we’re very keen to work with IBM and Cisco partners to maximise the very strong potential we see for this integrated solution.”
With information from the firewall available in QRadar, customers will be able to identify, prioritise and remediate suspicious activity and potential threats, and act earlier. The two leading vendors announced their plans to collaborate on security in the middle of last year. They subsequently started sharing information between the Cisco Talos and the IBM X-Force threat intelligence platforms. They have now taken this a step further with the integration between QRadar and Firepower. Further announcements are likely to follow.
Alison added, “this is the future direction of security. We will need solutions to talk to each other more and by integrating their solutions, IBM and Cisco are getting ahead of the game. This is a potent alliance and one that will certainly appeal to increasingly security-conscious UK enterprises.”
