Spicers 2020 catalogue uses Carbon Balanced Paper

Spicers has been helping to protect 125,750m2 of threatened tropical forest by using Carbon Balanced Paper for the production of its 2020 Catalogue.

Spicers took the decision to use carbon balanced paper as part of the development of its new CSR strategy. Utilising Carbon Balanced Paper for the 2020 catalogue has enabled Spicers to offset carbon emissions of the paper used for the big book, enabling them to balance 179,643kg of carbon dioxide through the World Land Trust, which equates to 125,750m2 of critically threatened tropical forest.

Naheeda Howard, SPOT CSR Manager said, "Spicers are committed to creating positive social and sustainable action throughout our supply chain. Partnership working with the prestigious World Land Trust has enabled us to mitigate our environmental impact whilst protecting one of the few remaining Annamite Lowland Forests in the world. Using Carbon Balanced paper is an important step in SPOT Group's ambitious CSR journey."

Carbon balanced paper is achieved through the preservation of ecologically important standing forests, locking in carbon that would otherwise be released and securing continued absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This is recognised as one of the most cost-effective and fastest ways to stop the increase of atmospheric CO2 and the effects of global warming.

To achieve this Spicers partnered with The World Land Trust, an international conservation charity that protects the world's most biologically significant and threatened habitats.

Spicers will continue to improve its environmental impact and strengthen its CSR strategy, with further developments on CO2 reduction expected in the coming months.
