Sarah Laker secures a hat-trick win as independent retailer of the year

Sarah Laker from Stationery Supplies in Marple has been crowned Independent Retailer of the Year for the third successive year at the BOSS Awards.

In addition to the award, Sarah was highly commended in the Professional of the Year category.

Sarah said, “winning this award for the 3rd year in a row feels such an amazing achievement to be recognised for all I do within my local community and the stationery industry is so rewarding. I have an incredible passion for what I do and the service I provide to my customers and the communities in which Stationery Supplies operates, but also for our industry as a whole, which makes the recognition alongside other such high-profile business names so mind-blowing! I really couldn’t do it without my dedicated team and loyal, valued customers.”

Sarah, who in 2024 will once again be heading up the National Stationery Week, celebrating all things stationery, was acknowledged by judges of the Awards who said, “every industry would love to have a Sarah. The breadth of Sarah's engagement across the industry and her involvement in the promotion of the industry is impressive. Her sharing of best practices and her ongoing promotion of the industry shows a generosity of spirit which is not always found in today’s businessperson.”

The Awards evening took place in Manchester last Thursday (30th November) where Sarah was a guest of her dealer group, Nemo Office Club, who also picked up other awards on the night.

Tim Beaumont, Group Managing Director said, “it was a fantastic evening, and no surprise to see Sarah’s entrepreneurism and passion recognised once again, up against some very strong opposition. During these times when retail businesses in particular are facing constant challenges, Sarah remains a shining beacon for what can be achieved.”

Sarah Laker, owner, founded Stationery Supplies in Marple, Cheshire back in September 2005 when she left behind a career in nursing to follow the dream of owning her stationery shop. Then in 2020, mid-pandemic, she took the brave decision of taking on a second stationery shop in Wilmslow bringing onboard her daughter, making it a truly family-run independent business. Stationery Supplies sells stationery, greeting cards, and gifts in both shops.
