On the evening before the show opens, 22nd October, ORGATEC’s site will host the first Chair Hockey World Championships. Chair hockey works in a similar way to conventional hockey, only on office chairs.
The was conceived over ten years ago by Jens Fislage, Managing Director of interiors specialists BKE Fislage. Since then, this ‘niche sport’ has developed into a serious event. The 2017 German Masters saw around 1,000 visitors flock to Bremen.
All the companies exhibiting at the trade fair were called upon to participate as the first teams were registered.
Jens said, “chair hockey has become a fixed event in our industry’s calendar. There have also been repeated enquiries from abroad in recent years. Now we want to open up our project to a wider audience. Above all, we want to pick up on that special atmosphere that spreads through the halls the day before each trade fair is due to begin.”
As well as being a sporting competition, the Championships look to put the chairs to the test, as well as being an excuse to network.
Jens added, “the moose test for office chairs. This is where CEOs from various industries regularly meet. As well as happy memories, the participants also go home with one or two business cards.”
The exhibitor tournament registration fee is Euro 290, all of which will be donated to a children’s charity. For anyone who wants to try out chair hockey for themselves, they can do so during ORGATEC 2018 with training opportunities every day between 2pm and 5pm from 23rd to 26th October. No advance registration is necessary.
Companies that would like to invite their employees or customers to participate in a game of chair hockey can reserve a chair hockey arena for their exclusive company or customer event between 5pm and 10pm each day.
