Commercial has won a Lotus Sustainability Award, which will be presented on 27th June at a ceremony in London.
The Lotus Sustainability Awards celebrate businesses that are helping to create a more sustainable future. This means they could be reducing poverty, supporting a local community project, reducing carbon footprint, partnering with charities, working to improve our environment, or having a great corporate social responsibility strategy, among others.
Commercial has been taking positive action to reduce emissions for nearly 12 years. During that time it has achieved significant reduction in its carbon footprint, adopting sustainable working practices including the introduction of a hydrogen-fuelled fleet and the use of renewable energy. The business has moved from 73 tonnes of CO2/£million turnover in 2006 to 20 tonnes of CO2/£million turnover in 2018. This means that for every £1 million of turnover gained in 2018 it emitted 73 per cent less carbon compared to 2006.
James Murphy, Founder, and CEO of Ei, parent company of the Lotus Awards said, “Commercial has made sustainability part of their DNA, which is the reason they won a Lotus Award. I was also inspired by Al Gore, and I believe that business has perhaps the greatest opportunity to change the future of our planet. Commercial Group is leading the way: Challenge, Champion, Change is exactly how we should be approaching sustainability.”
