Spicers are currently carrying out work to both their Smethwick and Greenwich sites with the newly configured Smethwick site planned to go live in 2017 and the live Greenwich site to create further benefits for dealers and customers.
Spicers investment in their major Smethwick site will now be enhanced with a two tier Mezzanine floor to join the new racking that has been installed. The freehold warehouse, that has been empty since 2014, has given the Spicers team the opportunity to finalise plans for the site’s redevelopment as to avoid the problems of rushing implementation in the past.
Supported by the RDCs in Manchester, Glasgow, Greenwich, the site will not operate until it is proven in terms of systems, stock, load and timings. The test bed for this will be some of SPOT Group’s own turnover from OfficeTeam, to provide confidence to the market.
Alongside the reintroduction of the Smethwick site, Spicers has retained a major Regional Distribution Centre in Greenwich to service the key London and home counties market. To develop their operational infrastructure to better support their dealers and customers, additional investment is being made to increase capacity.
All work is being carried out at weekends to ensure there is no service disruption during this process, a requirement made by Jeff Whiteway, the Group CEO.
He said, “this additional investment in our Greenwich site confirms that Spicers are committed to providing wholesaling excellence to its dealer customers and is part of a wider investment program in our network, to provide an ever widening range of goods and services with significant growth capacity for the future.”
