• Ride of Life confirmed for 2019

        • Charitable funds raised by the UK business supplies sector and its long-established annual Climb of Life (COL) initiative will once again be boosted in 2019 by the Ride of Life (ROL).

Established last year and coordinated by Sean Starkey, Managing Director of Durable (UK) and a small committee of volunteers, the ROL taps into the increasing popularity of road cycling to raise much needed donations for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).

The inaugural ROL was held in September 2018 and raised almost £20,000 for the ICR, the largest cancer centre in Europe. The ICR works with many international medical and research organisations with the ultimate aim of completely defeating the insidious disease.

The second ROL takes place on Thursday 27th June, with a start point in Surrey. The longer 100km (62 miles) route takes in the iconic climbs of Leith Hill and Box Hill while a shorter 67km (37 miles) route also includes Box Hill, where much of the action of the 2012 Olympic road race took place.

Sean Starkey, ROL organiser said, “the Ride of Life committee and I are delighted to be back in the saddle, supporting the ICR with this rewarding and unique initiative, and look forward to supplementing once again the excellent work done by Graeme Chapman MBE and his Climb of Life team.”

Around 25 industry executives took part in 2018 but the organisers are confident of putting together a larger group this year. It promises to be another day of great cycling together with industry networking and camaraderie, and all for a very worthy cause.

The event is open to anyone from the office products industry (UK or overseas) and anyone interested is encouraged to contact Sean Starkey as soon as possible as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
