• New research on unplanned downtime shows new channel opportunity

        • According to recently released industry data from Veeam, UK enterprises are wasting nearly £18m per year on unplanned downtime events. As organisations increasingly become more aware of this availability gap, a significant opportunity for the channel is appearing.

The findings, gathered from over 100 UK-based CIOs, reveals that 90 percent of enterprises admit to suffering to an ‘Availability Gap’ (the gap between users demand for uninterrupted access to services and what businesses and IT can deliver). Almost two thirds of Veeam’s respondents admit that, beside the financial costs of this gap, it is also affecting their ability to innovate and transform.

Richard Agnew, ‎VP NW EMEA, Veeam, believes that enterprise shortcomings present a substantial revenue opportunity for UK resellers and MSPs.

He said, “these findings show that UK enterprises are crying out for assistance when it comes to countering the availability and protections gaps. The UK channel, probably more so than anyone else, is strategically positioned to help to solve these issues. By positioning complementary products and consultancy, resellers and MSPs can truly take the lead on helping UK enterprises overcome these data challenges. The market opportunity for the channel is significant. UK enterprises have now seen the financial implications of their technology inadequacies. The time to act is now. That’s what I’d expect resellers to be driving home.”

The report also makes for good reading for the channel in the cloud stakes, as more and more companies are considering cloud as a viable springboard to their digital agenda, with software as a service investment expected to increase by over 50 percent in the next 12 months. Over a third of business leaders (39 percent) believe cloud providers can deliver better service levels for mission-critical data that their internal IT process. Investments in Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) are expected to rise similarly as organisations combine them with cloud.

Richard added, “the channel won’t be surprised by findings that show that cloud is finally coming to the fore for UK enterprises. But linking back to the availability gap, resellers and MSPs can now embark on an education programme to demonstrate the functionality of the cloud in relation to combatting availability and protection gap issues. It’s another strong proof point amongst a growing portfolio of evidence.”

          The findings:

          • CIO research shows that 90 percent of UK enterprises are facing a gap between user demand and what IT can deliver, or an ‘Availability Gap’
          • Unplanned downtime costs enterprises an average of £17.9 million each per year, demonstrating a huge opportunity to target end-users with product sets and consultancy to fill the void
          • 66 of UK enterprise CIOs admit that their Digital Transformation initiatives are being held back by unplanned downtime
