          A brand new, trade-only distributor is set to make waves in the UK office products industry - meet Gem Distribution.

          Gem Distribution, one of the UK's largest distributors of hardware, software and gaming, is planning a major move into the OP sector for 2013, offering a 'uniquely different' proposition to the independent dealer and vendor community. It's a move that could dramatically re-shape the industry going forward.

          Gem has some very solid financial credentials and at least one well-known industry figure driving the business forward; former Spicers' man Anthony Haworth is the Commercial Director at Gem and will head the OP operation.

          He explains: "As a subsidiary of DCC, Gem has the financial strength and support of a Eur13 billion parent company with Gem Group sales in excess of £500 million, a strong balance sheet and an industry-leading low-overhead base."

          He says the company will offer the very highest quality service, next day delivery and direct despatch across categories that will include; OP, EOS, PC/IT Hardware, Software and accessories, Networking, Print Hardware, AV, CE and Mobile.

          Whilst currently a market leading value-add distributor, there is a recognition that Gem may be little known within the OP channel. Over a short period of time however, Gem is confident that its fresh approach will add value to the vendor and dealer community.

          Haworth says: "Our market research has shown that there is a strong demand for change, with many dealers feeling that their current supply choices are severely limited and highlighting a growing unease over their current major wholesaler relationships.

          "We plan to offer a market-leading, low cost, service proposition to support the long-term future of the industry, but we want the business to be honest and respectful and, as cliched as it sounds, we genuinely want to create true, two-way working partnerships with our vendor and customer partners."

          Due for launch in Q3 of 2013, Haworth says the aim is to offer a formidable alliance of brands, new revenue opportunities, exceptional service and sales support. "Gem's success has been driven by working in true partnership with our vendor and customer partners since day one."

          Gem is a wholly owned subsidiary of DCC plc, a multi-national procurement, sales, marketing, distribution and business support services Group. Founded in 1976, it has a proven track record of organic growth and value-enhancing bolt-on acquisitions.
