• Dams celebrates 50 years of company heritage

        • 2017 is set to be a big year for Dams as it marks 50 years of company heritage and commitment to the office furniture industry.

          In 1967, Barry Scott started DAMS (Dictating and Adding Machine Service) as a one-man operation to do repairs to business machines. During the late 1960’s Dams started selling metal filing cabinets, and by the mid-1970’s Dams moved into new premises with a small showroom and warehouse and began selling desks and seating.

          Chris Scott, Managing Director said, “the 50-year anniversary marks an important milestone for the company as we look back on our proud heritage as a well-respected UK manufacturer and wholesaler of office furniture. We have achieved this milestone through the hard work and dedication of all our employees over the years, with a commitment to supplying quality office furniture products and providing unsurpassed customer service.”

          Today, Dams is still a privately owned company, employing over 230 people and operating from 3 sites in Knowsley, Merseyside. The company has a range of over 3,500 stocked items including desks, seating, storage, screens, tables and dedicated social spaces.

          Chris added, “we have come a long way since the business was started in 1967 and are very excited about our future. Dams are in a strong position as one of UK’s leading full range manufacturers and suppliers of office furniture. We are financially secure and we will continue to invest to ensure we maintain our position and expand our business in the future.”

          In the last year, Dams manufacturing operations made a ‘record’ number of products with the wood factory producing over 1.8 million wooden panels and the upholstery department processing over 66,000 upholstered seating and screen products. Dams also reported that its distribution centre delivered over 150,000 orders last year with the choice of multiple delivery options for dealers to select.

          Chris continued, “during this golden year, Dams are dedicated to having a positive impact on our employees, customers, suppliers, the environment, and also the local community which we work within. We will be marking the anniversary throughout the year by giving back through our charitable partnerships, and continuing to find new ways in which we can engage with local communities to improve people’s lives.”
