• Blake releases commemorative day cover for King Edward VIII

        • Blake and The Postal Museum have teamed up to deliver a commemorative piece of history in the form of a limited edition first day cover, for a special King Edward VIII Post & Go stamp release, marking the 80th anniversary of the uncrowned king’s short reign.

Coinciding with the actual issue date of the Edward VIII one penny stamp in 1936, the overprint will be available from the Post & Go+ machine in The Postal Museum foyer and will feature on both 1st and 2nd class reels. In addition to The Postal Museum logo, the overprint will feature a graphic illustration of the royal cipher for Edward VIII, as designed by him and used on royal household mail, as well as the text ‘King Edward VIII 1936’.

Tim Browning, Director of Blake said, “‘Blake are very excited to be involved in the design and production of this commemorative first day cover. Combining our expertise with those of The Postal Museum, we can promise collectors a very special, high quality product.”

The stamps will be available from The Postal Museum foyer during standard opening hours from Wednesday 14th September until close on Friday 11th November. A small graphic display in The Postal Museum’s foyer at Freeling House will accompany the release together with a King Edward VIII pillar box.

Emma Allen, Commercial Manager at The Postal Museum added, “The Postal Museum prides itself on the quality of its customer offer. By working with a highly respected brand such as Blake, we can offer a product of the highest quality, something truly special as either a one off, or to add to an existing collection.”

The first day cover will be available to pre-order from The Postal Museum’s online shop – shop.postalmuseum.org from 1st September.
