As part of Blake’s continued focus on growth through development, investments have recently been made into the acquisition of an envelope manufacturing plant in Telford, UK.
The acquisition looks to equip the business with the capabilities of producing an additional 300 million envelopes per year, on top of the 2 billion envelopes they currently sell on an annual basis. It also hopes to be significant step in strengthening UK based manufacturing.
Blake’s strategic move to invest was based on a number of factors:
- Supporting the resurgence of UK based manufacturing to facilitate economic growth.
- Current challenging economic climate as a result of Brexit and subsequent impact: currency fluctuations due to the weakness of the pound and the possibility of increased import duties and customs border delays.
- To meet the ever increasing service demands of Flexo and bespoke envelope manufacture.
Michael Barter, Blake’s Managing Director said, “this new plant, coupled with our sophisticated digital print production, means we can now cater to quantities from 50 to 5 million bespoke printed envelopes; providing the necessary flexibility to meet the needs of the market.
“We’ve seen an increasing demand from our customers for high quality printed mailing wallets produced in the UK, to flexible order quantities with a fast delivery. Providing an adaptable, relevant service is something that’s always been at the heart of our strategic objectives. So, this latest acquisition ensures we’re in a strong position to meet the needs of our customers, in what is an increasingly challenging time.”
