On 1st – 2nd June, Advantia member Elliot Batty from BOS will be setting himself the challenge of bike riding 145 miles from Barnsley to Amsterdam in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. Elliot successfully raised over £1,800 when he completed the challenge last year and is looking to beat this figure in June.
The challenge isn’t an easy one, but Elliot is highly motivated to raise money for such a brilliant cause. Prostate Cancer has now taken over Breast Cancer as a killer disease, with men in the UK standing a 1 in 8 chance of getting it. All donations to the cause go towards researching new ways of diagnosis and treatments that will lead to fewer side effects and increased success levels.
He said, “I am looking forward to doing the bike ride again not only because it’s for a good cause but also because there’s an extraordinary mixture of emotions which come from the physical effort, the incredible camaraderie and the simple fact of being part of a group of people coming together in solidarity for a common cause.
“What has hit home perhaps more than last year is the devastating statistics associated with Prostate cancer when you put it into the context of two men dying from it in the length of time a football match is played. There’s a lot of work to be done, not only in terms of research, but also to get men to sit up and actually take notice of this terrible disease, which in a lot of cases could be easily cured if caught in time. All this takes is money, so any donations really will be gratefully received and put to great use.”
This charity bike ride means a lot to Elliot, and he is determined to raise as much as he can for this fantastic cause. Therefore, if you would like to support Elliot in his bid to beat last year’s £1,800 figure, please follow the link below to his Just Giving page and make a donation.
Advantia wish Elliot the best of luck with his challenge.
