Paul Hudson, MD of Advantia member, write ON (office supplies) Ltd, has completed the ‘Brave The Shave’ challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Having been diagnosed with melanoma a few years ago, Paul and his team decided to once again raise money for Macmillan and Maggies. He set up a ‘Brave The Shave’ page and got the staff at write ON to shave his head. After a couple of comments that the hair was still 'a bit too long' and the beard hadn't been touched, he decided to take it a step further and complete the job.
Paul said, “we’ve all seen the Macmillan adverts on TV for their ‘Brave The Shave’ campaign, but when I saw young children, women and other men (all with lots more hair than me) on Twitter and Facebook who had shaved, I thought this is such a sacrifice for them. So I thought if these people can do this huge thing, for me to do it is a no-brainer.”
Paul said he remembered getting his diagnosis. When he got his bad news he was lucky because he had family and friends around to help. Macmillan supports patients and their carers by offering benefits advisers to give advice on what you can claim so you can pay your bills, support centres, and Macmillan nurses that provide support from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. The organisation also offers support for those with no friends and family around.
